With the income generated from the wind farm at Beinn Ghrideag, the Trust has established a long-term source of funding and is focused on using that money to create a sustainable charity ‘eco-system’ within the Western Isles. Independent research conducted for PST in 2020 showed in the first 5 years of operation, our wind farm invested £2.38M into the Western Isles with significant, measurable impact for the community.
Throughout the 25-year lifetime of the wind farm the Trust will continue its consultation with the community on its activities. Application for funding is open to all voluntary groups or community organisations, and project specific partnerships that are assessed against the criteria of our Constitution.
As well as long-term partnerships with Point Community Council, Sandwick Community Council and Sandwick North St Grazings Committee, the Trust is engaged in project-specific partnerships with the following:
- Bethesda Hospice (pictured above)
- Woodland Trust
- Point and Sandwick Energy Support Unit (ESU)
As well as funding donations to community projects, we offer a consultation service to community groups. We offer time and support to groups interested in developing their own projects and help those who are already active. PST grants are restricted to charitable organisations within the Point, Sandwick and Stornoway areas.
