Delivered by the Point and Sandwick Trust Energy Support Unit
The Home Repairs Service supports householders across the community with essential maintenance and minor repair work, helping people to stay safe, warm, and comfortable in their homes. Delivered by the team behind the Energy Support Unit, including Dan Morrison and Kenny MacLean, the service provides practical help with small but important jobs that can make a big difference – particularly for those who are housebound or unable to carry out repairs themselves.
Over the last six months, the team has been delivering a wide range of repairs and maintenance, including:
- Gutter cleaning
- Slip and trip hazard removal
- PAT testing for local commercial properties
- Building fabric inspections
- Light repairs
- Small appliance maintenance
- Slate and flat roof repairs
Kenny undertakes minor repairs for clients who may need a bit of help fixing small household items – whether it’s reattaching a loose fitting, gluing a broken part, or tightening a few screws on an appliance such as a vacuum cleaner. These small tasks help maintain properties and extend the life of household items, reducing waste and supporting independent living.

The service also provides valuable advice and guidance to householders considering larger fabric repairs to their property. A recent example includes the identification of structural failure in a steel box section supporting a conservatory, where corrosion at the footing was discovered and diagnosed as a significant issue.
The Home Repairs Service complements the wider work of the Energy Support Unit, which also includes initiatives such as the Domestic Fire Alarm Scheme and the Energy Efficiency and Advice Service.
