Feb 3, 2026

Point and Sandwick Trust (PST) has welcomed two new members to its Board, further strengthening local representation and bringing additional experience from across the community.  Gillian Mackenzie and Anna Murray have joined the Board with a shared commitment to supporting PST’s ongoing work to invest in people, places and opportunities across Point, Sandwick and the wider Western Isles.

Gillian joins the Board as a representative of North Street, Sandwick. A lifelong resident of North Street, Gillian spent three years studying in Glasgow before returning home, where she lives with her family. She works as a Family Support Worker within the Comhairle’s Early Years Service and is actively involved in her local community as a member of the North Street Community Fund group and as Secretary of Stornoway Primary Parent Council.

Speaking about her decision to join the Board, Gillian said: “I have followed the amazing work of Point and Sandwick Trust for some time and would like to give any support that I can to help ensure the continuation of such a worthwhile project for our community.”

Anna has also joined the PST Board, bringing experience from education and community involvement. Born and raised in Aignish, Anna has returned there to live with her husband and two daughters after studying in Glasgow and spending several years in Sandwick. She is a primary teacher at Stornoway Primary School and currently serves on the Aignish Grazings Committee.

Anna said: “I have been very impressed by what has been achieved so far by Point and Sandwick Trust. I have seen the positive impact PST funding has had on our local community, particularly for young people, and it was an easy decision to join the Board. I hope to help PST continue its great work.”

Welcoming the new Board members, PST Chairman, Norman Mackenzie said, “We are delighted to welcome Gillian and Anna to the Board. Both bring strong local knowledge, valuable professional experience and a genuine commitment to their communities. Their insight and enthusiasm will be an important asset as PST continues to support projects and initiatives that deliver lasting social, economic and environmental benefits.”

Point and Sandwick Trust is a community-owned organisation working to support social, economic and environmental development in the Point and Sandwick area and beyond. The Trust reinvests income generated from its assets into local projects, services and initiatives that make a positive difference to everyday lives across the Western Isles.
