Point Juniors football thrives with new kit and rain jackets

Young players at Point Junior Football Club are benefiting from continued support from Point and Sandwick Trust (PST), which has funded new playing strips and rain jackets to help ensure grassroots football remains accessible, inclusive, and well-resourced for families across the community.

A total of £4,200 was provided to the club to cover new playing strips for junior team members as well as rain jackets for the U-8s. The investment means players across age groups can take to the pitch in smart, matching kit while also staying warm and dry during training and match days in all weather conditions. The support has been warmly welcomed by players, coaches, and parents alike.  Coach Derek Maclean said the new rain jackets have already made a real difference to the U-8s, particularly during wet and windy training sessions, helping the children feel more comfortable, prepared, and united as a team.

Donald John MacSween, from Point and Sandwick Trust, added, “Supporting grassroots football helps remove barriers for families, strengthens participation, and gives young people the opportunity to enjoy sport together in a positive, inclusive environment. We’re delighted to continue working with Point FC across all age groups.”

By covering essential kit costs, the funding has also helped ease financial pressure on families, ensuring more children can participate fully without cost being a barrier, while strengthening pride and identity within the club.  Point Junior Football Club continues to benefit from ongoing support from PST across multiple age groups, from early development through to older youth teams. This long-term backing has enabled the club to grow steadily, support more children, and provide opportunities for participation and development throughout the community.

A recent example of this impact came from the Under 16s team, who travelled to the mainland earlier this month and secured wins against Balloan Athletic and Balloan United. Coach Iain Macleod highlighted how year-on-year funding has been essential in developing players and making trips and fixtures like this possible.

PST said it remains committed to supporting Point FC across all age groups, recognising the importance of grassroots sport in building confidence, teamwork, and community connection among young people.
