Community funding supports annual P2B Over-60s trip

Aug 13, 2026

Around 30 people took part in the annual Parkend to Branahuie (P2B) Over-60s Bus Trip on Saturday, 8 August. The annual outing brought together members of the community for a day travelling through the Westside and on to Ness, with visits to Gearrannan Blackhouse Village and the Port of Ness before an evening meal at the Borve Country House Hotel.

At Gearrannan, the group enjoyed what had been billed as a “light lunch” – although most agreed it was closer to a feast – as well as a selection of traditional songs performed by Dolly Angie. There was also time to explore the historic village before travelling on to Ness, where the itinerary included stops at the local charity shop and Cross Stores.

P2B’s Norman MacLean said: “It was another wonderful day out and, despite the wind and rain, spirits were high from the outset. There was plenty of laughter throughout the day, a fantastic welcome everywhere we went and I think everyone came home tired but very happy.  The annual trip is something people really look forward to and it’s a great opportunity to get together, enjoy each other’s company and have a day away. We’re very grateful to everyone whose support helps us make it happen each year.”

The outing received financial backing from Point and Sandwick Trust (PST), alongside Ward Funding with the support of Cllr George Murray.

DJ MacSween, General Manager at Point and Sandwick Trust said, “We’re pleased to continue supporting the P2B Over-60s Bus Trip. Bringing people together and helping people stay connected is an important part of community life, and it’s great to see so many people enjoying this annual day out.”

Thanks were also extended to A Maclennan Motors for providing the bus and driver Iain; Mairi and the team at Gearrannan Blackhouse Village; the staff at Borve Country House Hotel; and everyone involved in organising and supporting the day.
