LED Energy Community Project

Funded for the 1st year under the Climate Challenge Fund, this exciting new project will distribute and install LED light bulbs in all homes within the trust area over the next 5 years. LED’s can reduce your lighting bill by up to 90%.

The manager will also carry out an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) survey that will rate the property for its current and potential energy performance with recommendations of cost-effective measures to improve the ratings. This will give the manager the opportunity to refer you for any potential insulation measures available including internal wall, underfloor, loft and/or cavity wall. The data captured during these surveys will potentially help the PSDT in securing future funding for the area.

If you wish to express your interest in the project, please contact the manager or complete the contact form on this page

Cut your energy bills – SWITCH

You can save money on your electricity bills by shopping around for a better deal. Comparing is quick and easy. You can use energy comparisons sites or speak to energy suppliers directly to see what deals are out there. Before you start you’ll need the name of your current supplier and the name of your tariff. To make the comparison more accurate, it’s also useful to know the annual kWh consumption of your household. You can find this information on your annual statement if you have one.

Vatersay resident wins £500 worth of electricity

During the course of last summer advisory teams from Tighean Innse Gall (TIG) attended all the summer shows and gala days across the Western Isles. As well as being able to provide face to face advice to the public on the day, referrals were also taken for those requiring additional help including insulation surveys, which allowed some to access available measures. As part of this outreach exercise the public were encouraged to fill in a short survey form which, once we had completed all the shows, were entered into a draw to receive £500 off their fuel bill. The first name picked randomly by the computer was Mary F MacLeod, 3 Am Meall, Vatersay. During a visit to Barra in November Martha MacLeod, TIG’s fuel poverty officer called to see Mrs MacLeod and presented her with her cheque.

Mrs MacLeod was delighted to receive the cheque and said “I won't have to worry about putting my heaters on this winter" Martha said that by attending all the summer events it enabled TIG to engage with members of the public, on a one-to-one basis, and meant that they were able to deliver bespoke energy advice. She was delighted to be able to present Mary with her cheque on behalf of TIG.
